The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed an alleged sexual assault involving a student of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School in the Upper East Region, leading to the arrest and interdiction of two school watchmen.

According to the GES, preliminary investigations indicate that the student, who has special needs and is on medication, reportedly suffered a relapse and was receiving medical attention when the alleged incident occurred.

The two watchmen have been handed over to the police to assist with investigations and have been interdicted by the GES with immediate effect.

The Service said thorough investigations are ongoing and that appropriate sanctions will be applied in accordance with the GES Code of Conduct and Ghanaian law, depending on the outcome.

GES has reiterated its commitment to protecting the safety, dignity and wellbeing of students and assured parents and the public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
