Ghana and the Netherlands have signed a Letter of Intent to strengthen cooperation in the fight against illicit drugs and drug markets.
The agreement was signed in Ghana by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and the Netherlands’ Minister of Justice and Security, D.M. Van Weel, during the latter’s official visit to the country.
Mr Ablakwa said the agreement builds on the Accra Call to Action and seeks to deepen international collaboration in tackling the illicit drug trade.
He said the partnership is aimed at providing stronger global leadership in addressing the drug problem, which he noted poses serious threats to young people, public health, the rule of law and human rights.
The Foreign Affairs Minister expressed confidence that stronger international cooperation between Ghana, the Netherlands and other partners could help disrupt drug markets involved in the trafficking of cocaine, synthetic drugs and illicit funds.
