The Ghana Police Service says its investigation into a viral kidnapping allegation made by an American woman has been severely hindered by her refusal to cooperate.

Arianna Naomi Mackey, who posted a video claiming she was kidnapped and robbed by men she believed were police officers in Accra, left Ghana on December 5, 2025, shortly after the incident went public. According to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), she later admitted she could not identify the alleged officers or their vehicle.

Investigators say Ms. Mackey subsequently deleted the viral video and blocked the police on WhatsApp. Her alleged companion, said to have witnessed the incident, has also declined to assist.

Despite the setbacks, the Police say they are pursuing diplomatic channels to secure her cooperation, stressing the seriousness with which they treat such allegations. The statement was issued by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer for the CID.
