Goat keepers in Jinijini, in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region, have staged a protest against a directive from the Berekum Traditional Council ordering them to remove their animals from the traditional area. The demonstrators, wearing red armbands, blocked sections of the town’s main road, disrupting traffic.

Spokesperson for the group and former Assembly Member, Mr. Oppong Tia, mentioned that the goat keepers were not given sufficient time to relocate their animals. He alleged that a task force set up by the council had begun seizing goats in the communities, a move he described as unfair given the financial investment many had made in their livestock.

Mr. Tia noted that goat rearing is the primary source of livelihood for many residents and appealed for government intervention, warning that enforcing the directive could deepen economic hardship in the area.
