The government has announced a new cultural initiative designating every Wednesday as “Fugu Day”, encouraging Ghanaians and friends of Ghana, both at home and abroad, to wear Fugu, also known as Batakari, as part of efforts to promote the country’s cultural heritage.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who said the initiative is aimed at strengthening national identity and cultural pride.
According to the statement, the weekly observance is also expected to deliver social and economic benefits by empowering local weavers, designers, artisans and traders, while expanding business and employment opportunities across the creative value chain.
The government expressed optimism that the initiative will strengthen national unity, stimulate the creative economy and project Ghana’s cultural heritage confidently to the global community.
