The Government is holding a national interfaith memorial service to honour the eight people who lost their lives in the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash, one year after the tragedy.
The ceremony, taking place at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), is being attended by President John Mahama, Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, government officials, families of the deceased and other mourners.
The crash claimed the lives of government officials and military personnel, as they travelled to the Ashanti Region to support efforts against illegal mining.
The Ghana Armed Forces said the Ghana Air Force Z9 helicopter was en route from Accra to Obuasi when it crashed in a wooded area at Adansi Sikaman in the Ashanti Region before being engulfed in flames.
The memorial service is intended to honour the victims’ contributions and offer continued support to their families while commemorating the first anniversary of the national tragedy.
