Officials of Ghana Water Limited (GWL) have uncovered illegal water connections at a sachet and bottled water manufacturing company and a medical facility in Shai Hills and Asutsuare, Shai Osudoku District, Greater Accra Region.
According to Sampson Ampah, Tema Region Communications Manager for GWL, the factory had bypassed and removed meters, diverting treated water directly into eight large storage tanks for production without payment. The medical facility was also found to have tapped directly into a 21-inch main line for almost five years, supplying water to its underground storage reservoir.
The discoveries were made after weeks of surveillance by the GWL and security personnel as part of a nationwide crackdown under the National Revenue Enhancement Taskforce. Ampah stressed that such illegal connections deny GWL revenue critical for infrastructure maintenance and service expansion and called on the public to report suspicious activities, promising confidentiality and financial rewards for credible information.
