A section of the Yamoransa–Assin Fosu highway at Assin Andoe in the Central Region has been washed away following heavy rainfall, disrupting traffic and leaving motorists stranded.
The incident, which is the second to hit the area within a week, occurred after torrential rains caused the Otsi River and nearby drainage channels to overflow, submerging parts of the road network and damaging a bridge in the community.
Officials say the overnight downpour eroded part of the highway, forcing emergency response teams to place warning signs and redirect vehicles through a temporary diversion route while engineers assess the extent of the damage.
District Chief Executive for Assin South, Jonathan Birikorang, who inspected the affected area, advised motorists to avoid the stretch until repair works are completed and the road is declared safe for use.
He added that the district assembly is working with regional authorities to fast-track emergency repairs and provide assistance to affected residents.
Meanwhile, floodwaters have also cut off the Assin Andoe–Adadientam–Homaho–Adubiase road, leaving several communities within the Assin South District inaccessible.
