Renowned Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama has accused a senior police officer of failing to stop an alleged assault against him in Tamale. Mahama claims that Bawah Abdul Jalil, commander of the Special Operations Team, was present throughout the incident near the Mariam Hotel but did not intervene, despite being in charge of the officers involved.
According to Mahama, the officers assaulted him both at the scene and later at the police station, allegedly attempting to force him to delete a video he had recorded during the encounter. He emphasized that while the commander did not physically participate, the actions occurred under his authority and could have been prevented.
Mahama further stated that the officer knew him personally but still failed to act. His account contradicts the police’s version of events, which denies any assault and maintains that the situation arose from a traffic enforcement operation that escalated, leading to arrests for offensive conduct before those involved were later released.
