Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has called for stronger cooperation among Ghana’s security agencies, urging police commanders to deepen collaboration and strengthen the country’s national security architecture.
Speaking at the opening of the Police Regional Command Conference at the National Police Headquarters on Friday, August 21, 2026, the IGP said Ghanaians expect a Police Service that is professional, visible, competent, fair and trusted.
He urged Regional Commanders to provide effective leadership and make decisions that support the transformation of the Ghana Police Service.
Mr. Yohuno also stressed the need for closer engagement among security commanders, saying stronger cooperation was essential to addressing the country’s evolving security challenges.
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, commended police officers for their commitment and sacrifices in maintaining peace and security. He said the conduct of officers has a direct impact on public confidence in state institutions.
The Interior Minister urged Regional Commanders to strengthen leadership, accountability and professionalism in their respective regions to meet rising public expectations.
He also highlighted the growing use of technology in policing, including the TRAFITECH automated road traffic enforcement system and the National Criminal Automated Biometric Identification System.
According to the Minister, more than 700 digital enrolment stations are expected to be deployed nationwide by the end of 2026. The initiative is intended to strengthen intelligence-led policing, improve criminal investigations and enhance crime prevention.
The conference brought together members of the Police Management Board, senior officials from the Ministry of the Interior, the Police Hospital and Police Academy, as well as Regional Police Commanders from across the country.
