Former Tamale Central MP Inusah Fuseini has opposed the government’s proposal to extend Ghana’s presidential term from four years to five, arguing that improving governance efficiency is more important than increasing time in office.
Fuseini said a focused and committed administration can achieve meaningful results within a four-year mandate, citing President John Dramani Mahama’s current administration as evidence that governments can make significant progress early in their tenure. He also dismissed claims that governments need extra time due to transition and election-related activities.
While welcoming the ongoing constitutional review process, Fuseini argued that the proposed amendment promotes inefficiency rather than accountability. He called for clear performance benchmarks to measure how quickly governments establish their administrations and deliver on campaign promises.
