Former Ghana international Michael Essien has issued a message of encouragement to Caleb Yirenkyi after the 20-year-old midfielder finalized his transfer from FC Nordsjaelland to Coventry City.
The Black Stars midfielder completed a move to the newly-promoted Premier League side in a deal valued at up to €30 million, establishing a new record transfer fee for Scandinavian football.
Essien, who serves as an individual coach at FC Nordsjaelland, commended the player’s development and work ethic via his official X account while offering advice for his future career.
“Your hardwork, dedication, attitude and willingness to learn will continue to push you to greater heights. Stay humble, discipline, respectful and keep working hard. Wishing you all the best.”
The transfer sees Yirenkyi join fellow Ghanaian international Brandon Thomas-Asante at Coventry City. The pair recently linked up on international duty, where Thomas-Asante assisted Yirenkyi’s game-winning goal against Panama during Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
