Kennedy Ohene Agyapong holds a commanding lead in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential contest, a new Sanity Africa poll shows, as the party prepares for primaries on January 31, 2026.
The Phase Three voter intention survey puts the former Assin Central MP at 52.0 per cent among delegates, while former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia trails with 40.0 per cent support.
Conducted between October 2025 and January 2026, the poll sampled 15,000 delegates from all 276 constituencies. It reflects sentiment within the expanded delegate album of approximately 211,000 voters, which includes former appointees and past party executives. Sanity Africa reports the findings have a 99 per cent confidence level with a ±5 per cent margin of error.
Other candidates remain far behind. Dr Bryan Acheampong garnered 7.0 per cent, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum received 0.7 per cent, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong polled 0.3 per cent.

Compared to the Phase Two poll in October, Agyapong’s support dipped slightly by 1.1 percentage points, Bawumia gained 1.0 point, and Acheampong recorded the most significant increase with a 2.0-point rise.
The organisation characterizes the race as “fluid,” warning that delegate preferences may shift before voting day due to campaign messaging, endorsements, and regional mobilisation efforts. Despite Agyapong’s clear advantage, Sanity Africa cautions that late momentum from competing candidates could narrow the gap.
