Former Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Dr Kingsley Agyemang, has denied allegations of wrongdoing over scholarship awards made during the previous NPP administration.
In a statement issued through his lawyers on August 13, 2026, Dr Agyemang said he performed his duties with diligence and rejected claims made against him by Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland, Sabah Zita Benson.
His lawyers said investigations into alleged irregularities surrounding scholarship awards during his tenure are already being conducted by state security and investigative agencies. They criticised the High Commissioner for discussing the matter publicly while the investigations are ongoing.
The lawyers said Dr Agyemang has made himself available to the relevant agencies and has cooperated fully with the investigations. They added that he remains committed to seeing the matter resolved through due process.
The response follows Ms Benson’s claim on TV3’s Ghana Tonight that Dr Agyemang approved UK scholarships for 189 students, costing about £3.1 million, before leaving office and that the awards had contributed to Ghana’s outstanding debts to UK universities.
Dr Agyemang’s lawyers maintained that he remains confident the investigations will establish the truth and clear his name.
