The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Richard Ofori Agyemang-Boadi, has ordered the immediate closure of Alpha and Omega Chop Bar, a well-known food joint located around the Krobo-Odumase (K.O) area in Kumasi’s Central Business District, due to poor sanitary conditions.

The directive followed an inspection tour conducted by the Mayor on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, during which a strong offensive stench was traced to an overflowing drain that had spilled onto the main road, posing a serious public health threat to traders and commuters.

Further checks revealed that waste discharged from the chop bar had blocked the drainage system, contributing significantly to the overflow. The situation was worsened by the operations of a public toilet facility situated directly behind the food joint.

As part of the enforcement action, the Mayor ordered that operators of the toilet facility be hauled before court for allegedly operating with fake documentation and without a septic tank, instead discharging waste directly into the drain. More than 10 other shops whose activities were found to be contributing to the unsanitary conditions have also been summoned to court.

The KMA boss warned operators of food outlets and sanitation facilities to strictly comply with environmental and public health regulations or face sanctions.

“We are summoning all of them to court for the law to deal with them,” he said.

He further appealed to operators to ensure full compliance with sanitation and environmental laws, stressing that public health must not be compromised.

“We expect strict adherence to the laws. Public health cannot be compromised,” he said.
