Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has announced that government plans to rename the Kotoka International Airport as Accra International Airport, as part of efforts to better reflect Ghana’s democratic values and national identity.
He disclosed this while speaking to journalists ahead of the first sitting of the Second Session of the 9th Parliament, noting that a bill would be laid before Parliament to formalise the change in accordance with established legal procedures.
Mr Ayariga stressed that the proposed renaming must be guided by law and the will of the people, adding that Parliament will play a central role in debating the matter.
The move is expected to spark public discussion, given the historical significance of the airport’s current name and its status as one of Ghana’s most recognisable national landmarks.
