President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to introduce a National Emoluments Policy aimed at addressing salary disparities across Ghana’s public sector.

Speaking at a meeting with Organised Labour at Jubilee House on March 17, 2026, the President said the initiative will be managed by an Independent Emoluments Commission tasked with standardising pay structures and improving fairness in public sector remuneration.

The announcement follows recent industrial action by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana, which raised concerns over conditions of service and wage imbalances.

According to President Mahama, the proposed policy will harmonise allowances, strengthen performance-based compensation, and align public sector salaries with the country’s broader development and fiscal priorities. He stressed that the goal is to create a system that rewards productivity while ensuring equity and supporting national growth.

The reforms form part of broader government efforts to improve industrial relations and establish a more sustainable and balanced compensation framework within the public sector.
