President John Dramani Mahama has approved the re-engagement of Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno as Inspector-General of Police for an additional two years, beyond his statutory retirement.

A letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Mr Callistus Mahama, said the approval followed a recommendation by the Police Council and was in line with the laws governing the administration of the Ghana Police Service.

The letter explained that Mr Yohuno would be re-engaged upon attaining the compulsory retirement age in December 2025, with the renewed appointment taking effect from December 28, 2025.

“During this period, you shall continue to serve as the Inspector-General of Police and discharge the duties and responsibilities attached to the office,” the letter stated.

It noted that the President’s decision reflected the Police Council’s firm belief that Mr Yohuno’s continued leadership was necessary to sustain ongoing reforms, strengthen operational effectiveness and ensure stability within the Ghana Police Service.

The letter further requested Mr Yohuno to confirm his acceptance of the re-engagement in writing within three days after receipt.

The reappointment is expected to provide continuity in leadership at a time of ongoing reforms and heightened security responsibilities nationwide.
