Mahama Laments: Six New Regions Exist in Name Only, Bemoans Unfortunate Lack of Development

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has criticized the government for what he perceives as a lack of development in the six newly established regions.

According to his assessment, the six regions initiated by the Akufo-Addo administration are essentially symbolic entities, lacking substantial development. During a meeting with traditional authorities at the Jakpa Palace, Mahama expressed his commitment to prioritizing the development of these newly created regions if elected.

While acknowledging the ease of region creation, Mahama emphasized that a region must possess essential infrastructure and amenities to truly function as a region. He argued that despite the formal establishment of these six regions, the necessary elements to unequivocally identify them as fully developed regions are still conspicuously absent.

“I can assure you that not only for the Savannah region but all the six new when the NDC comes into power, the things that you need to be called a region, we will make sure that you have them.”

During his address, Mahama also highlighted his disappointment in the government’s decision to halt the Damomgo Water Project.

The former President underscored the importance of tangible development initiatives in these regions, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to fostering their progress if granted the opportunity to lead.

The ongoing “Building Ghana Tour” initiated by the NDC is designed to address public concerns and integrate them into the party’s manifesto for the upcoming election.
