President John Dramani Mahama has called on the United Arab Emirates to invest in oil and gas storage infrastructure in Ghana as part of efforts to deepen energy cooperation between the two nations.
The proposal was discussed during a meeting with UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on May 6, held on the sidelines of the “Make it in the Emirates 2026” Summit at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
The two leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral relations, with a focus on trade, investment, renewable energy, innovation, technology, and artificial intelligence. They also explored ways to diversify energy sources, including transitioning toward Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and solar power to reduce dependence on crude oil.
In addition to energy cooperation, both leaders discussed the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, expressing hope for a swift resolution to tensions between the United States and Iran. They noted that restoring peace would allow greater global focus on sustainable development and innovation.
The UAE President described Ghana as a “peaceful partner” and a “secure, stable democracy,” highlighting opportunities for expanded cooperation.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening historical ties and expressed optimism that the renewed partnership would lead to tangible progress in energy development, trade, and investment for mutual benefit.
