President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed that his government’s ban on first-class travel for ministers and public officers remains in place.
Speaking at the 77th Annual New Year School at the University of Ghana, Legon, on Tuesday, January 6, he shared a personal experience to illustrate the policy. He recounted how, on a flight, a passenger found himself alone in the first-class cabin and asked the airline staff why it was empty. The staff explained that all Ghanaian ministers and public officers are prohibited from travelling first class, and that most were seated in business class.
This incident shows that the ban is actively enforced and underscores his administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline and cost-conscious governance.
