President John Dramani Mahama is set to hold an emergency Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, to address growing challenges in Ghana’s cocoa sector, Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced.

The meeting comes amid severe financing constraints and delayed payments to cocoa farmers and Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), raising concerns about the stability of the industry. The Licensed Cocoa Buyers Association of Ghana (LICOBAG) has warned that government must secure emergency funding to purchase about 300,000 tonnes of cocoa beans through September to prevent a potential collapse.

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has acknowledged the funding gap and said it is working with the Ministry of Finance on possible solutions, including a review of the long-standing syndicated loan financing model, as government officials and sector stakeholders prepare to agree on urgent measures to stabilise the value chain and ensure timely payments to farmers.
