President John Dramani Mahama is set to officially launch Ghana’s flagship Free Primary Healthcare Programme today, marking a major step toward expanding access to essential health services nationwide.
The launch is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Shai Osudoku District Hospital, where government officials and stakeholders are expected to gather for the event.
The initiative aims to remove financial barriers at the primary level of healthcare, enabling citizens, especially those in underserved communities to access basic medical services without cost. It is also designed to strengthen primary healthcare systems and support Ghana’s drive toward universal health coverage.
Officials say the programme will enhance early diagnosis, preventive care, and community-based health interventions, helping to ease pressure on higher-level health facilities.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh noted that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to building a resilient, inclusive healthcare system grounded in equity, accessibility, and sustainability.
