President John Dramani Mahama will embark on a four-day official visit to Jamaica from August 2 to 5, 2026, to strengthen Ghana’s relations with Jamaica and deepen cooperation with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The visit is also expected to reinforce Ghana’s support for the global campaign for reparations over the transatlantic slave trade.
A key highlight of the trip will be President Mahama’s participation in a high-level Reparations Dialogue at the University of the West Indies, where he will join regional leaders to discuss reparations and the lasting impact of the slave trade. He will also pay tribute to Jamaica’s Pan-African heritage by visiting the shrine of Marcus Mosiah Garvey and the Ghanaian Village Houses at Seville Heritage Park.
The visit will include bilateral talks with the Jamaican government on trade, culture and South-South cooperation, as well as a Trade and Investment Dialogue, an address to Jamaica’s Parliament, and other official engagements. The Presidency says the visit is expected to deepen Ghana-Jamaica relations, strengthen Africa-Caribbean collaboration, and position Ghana as a gateway for CARICOM’s engagement with the African continent.
