The University of Ghana Medical Centre Ltd. (UGMC) has disputed claims made by Ghanaian-American comedian Michael Blackson regarding the treatment of his late mother, saying several of the allegations he shared on social media are inaccurate.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the hospital extended its condolences to Blackson and his family following the death of his 83-year-old mother on July 16, 2026, and said it had conducted a thorough review of the concerns raised.
UGMC stated that its findings showed Mr Blackson’s account did not accurately reflect the care provided during his mother’s eight-week admission, which began after she was referred from another health facility on May 27.
The Centre said it would not disclose details of the patient’s diagnosis or treatment, citing its obligation to protect patient confidentiality even after death.
UGMC also confirmed that an alleged physical assault involving Mr Blackson’s sister and a staff member has been referred to the appropriate law enforcement authorities and declined further comment while investigations continue.
The hospital reiterated its commitment to professional healthcare standards and said it remains open to engaging privately with the family while investigating any specific allegations of staff misconduct through the appropriate channels.
