The Minority cas in Parliament has called for the immediate arrest of individuals involved in the alleged unlawful closure of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office in Tema Central.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, February 12, 2026, and signed by the Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Committee on Health, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, the Minority described the incident as an unacceptable disruption of essential healthcare services.

The caucus alleged that the office was locked by some political party executives, describing the action as unlawful interference with a public institution. It stressed that the NHIS must not be used as a tool in partisan disputes, especially as it serves vulnerable citizens.

The Minority is demanding swift action from law enforcement authorities to arrest and prosecute all persons involved, warning that failure to act could encourage political actors to interfere with public institutions without consequence.

It also called for the immediate reopening of the office and the full restoration of services to ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare for residents.
