The Minority Caucus in Parliament is demanding the immediate release of Mr Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), from detention by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).

In a statement dated February 11, 2026, and signed by Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Caucus described the detention as “totally unacceptable in the pursuit of justice” and accused authorities of abusing their power.

The NIB’s investigation into Mr Ofosu Nkansah stems from a directive issued by the Secretary to the President, Mr Callistus Mahama, on February 3. The directive instructed the Bureau to probe comments Mr Nkansah purportedly made on Sompa Radio about payments made to obtain foreign scholarship placements.

In the radio programme in question, Mr Nkansah claimed that approximately GHC100,000 had been paid to secure scholarship slots abroad.

Mr Ofosu Nkansah first appeared at the NIB on February 5 with his lawyer and was allowed to leave without facing any charges.

The Minority stated that he was summoned again while in Kumasi caring for his gravely ill father. Despite asking to report on February 11, he honoured the Bureau’s urgent request to appear earlier.

Upon his arrival, heavily armed officers allegedly escorted him to his home for a search before taking him back to the NIB’s Nima office. He was subsequently transferred to what the Caucus called an unknown location.

“As far as we know, Mr Ofosu is at an unknown location; and given the manner in which he was reported to have been hurled away, we cannot imagine the ordeal he is undergoing with no recourse to his legal counsel,” the statement said.

The Caucus maintained that such conduct is disproportionate and violates the principles of rule of law and democratic governance.

Calling the situation “totally unacceptable,” the Minority pressed for his immediate release and stressed that “further investigations ought to be carried out in a civil and dignified manner as we have been permitted to do under law.”

The Caucus vowed it would not stay silent while citizens face unfair treatment from institutions tasked with upholding justice and professionalism.
