The Minority Leader in Parliament of Ghana, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has described the Minority Whips as the backbone of his leadership, stressing that a coordinated and disciplined whip team is essential for the opposition to function effectively.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on February 16, 2026, Mr Afenyo-Markin said the pressures of leading the Minority make the role of the Chief Whip and his deputies indispensable to parliamentary strategy and organisation.
He singled out Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh for his strong organisational skills and leadership, and praised First Deputy Minority Chief Whip Habib Iddrisu for developing into a firm and effective advocate in parliamentary procedure.
The Minority Leader also commended Second Deputy Minority Whip Jerry Ahmed Shaib, describing him as a reliable support within the leadership structure.
Mr Afenyo-Markin said the three whips have become his key anchors, noting that the Minority’s ability to hold government accountable depends heavily on a strong, coordinated whip system grounded in parliamentary rules and strategy.
