Operatives of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) have carried out a major operation targeting illegal mining activities along the River Tano in the Western North Region.

The exercise, conducted on April 4, covered affected areas from Patoso to Adiembra in the Aowin District. The operation led to the seizure and destruction of equipment used in illegal mining, including pumping machines, changfang machines, tricycles, and motorbikes.

In total, six pumping machines and an excavator oil pump were confiscated, while several unauthorized mining structures were dismantled.

NAIMOS says it has intensified operations in the region, with task forces stationed at Enchi and Dadieso to combat illegal mining along the Tano and Bia rivers, both of which have been heavily polluted by galamsey activities.
