The National Identification Authority (NIA) has refuted reports that the Ghana Card can currently be used for financial transactions, describing such claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on April 8, 2026, the Authority clarified that the Ghana Card has not yet been activated for any financial transaction purposes and urged the public to rely only on official communications.

The NIA acknowledged that discussions are ongoing with policymakers and stakeholders in the financial sector regarding the potential future integration of the card into transaction systems. However, it stressed that no final decision has been reached.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the security and integrity of the national identification system, assuring that any updates on the matter will be communicated through official channels.
