Nine miners have been trapped following the collapse of a mining pit at Konongo in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening while the miners were working underground. According to reports, the pit suddenly caved in, blocking the exit route and leaving the miners trapped beneath the debris.
Rescue efforts are currently underway, with emergency responders and fellow miners working tirelessly at the scene in an attempt to save the trapped individuals.
As of the time of filing this report, no rescue had been completed.
The Asante Akyem Central Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Lanbon Joseph, confirmed the incident in an interview.
