UK-based Ghanaian gospel musician Diana Antwi Hamilton has claimed that gospel artistes are charged significantly higher fees to stage events at London’s O2 Arena compared to their secular counterparts.
Speaking in a recent interview, Diana said her team is considering several factors before deciding whether to host a version of her annual Awake Experience concert at the venue, citing strict conditions and high costs.
She explained that one major limitation is that performers are not allowed to own or freely use video footage recorded at the arena, making it difficult for artistes to generate content from their events.
Diana further alleged that gospel musicians are charged more than double the rates paid by secular artistes, attributing the difference to the fact that gospel events do not generate revenue from alcohol sales.
The singer noted that while the O2 Arena remains a highly sought-after venue for Ghanaian event organisers, its restrictions and pricing structure pose significant challenges for gospel concerts.
