Minister for Works and Housing, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has announced that the desilting and dredging of the Odaw River is expected to be completed by December 2027.

Addressing Parliament, the Minister said the project is being implemented under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project to improve stormwater management, reduce flooding, and strengthen climate resilience in the Greater Accra Region.

According to him, the project began in February 2024 and is progressing as scheduled with funding provided under the GARID initiative. He noted that periodic desilting and dredging are critical to improving water flow and minimising flood risks, particularly during the rainy season.

The update comes amid ongoing public concern over flooding in parts of the capital, with government maintaining that investments under the GARID Project will enhance drainage infrastructure and reduce the impact of climate-related disasters.
