The office of former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has dismissed concerns over reports suggesting he and his wife were evacuated from Qatar, confirming that the couple are safe and have travelled onward to Saudi Arabia.

In a statement issued by his Special Aide, Akbar Khomeini, it was clarified that Dr Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia, left Doha for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

“Dr Bawumia and his wife, Hajia Samira, are both fine and safe. The couple left Doha, Qatar, this morning for Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, an essential Islamic practice,” the statement said.

The release did not address the circumstances surrounding their departure from Qatar or confirm whether any evacuation had occurred, focusing instead on reassuring the public of their safety and outlining their travel plans.

According to the statement, the couple are expected to begin the Umrah pilgrimage in Mecca on Thursday, March 5, 2026, and are scheduled to depart Saudi Arabia on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
