Ghanaian musician Okyeame Kwame has revealed a touching behind‑the‑scenes story about a collaboration he had hoped to bring to life—one that would have united two generations of Ghanaian music in a historic moment.
Speaking to Blakk Rasta on 3FM, Okyeame Kwame shared that he had been working tirelessly to arrange a collaboration between rising star King Paluta and the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba.
“I was pushing him to do a song with King Paluta,” Okyeame Kwame said. “I had conversations with him on the phone, but I think issues with his health meant he wasn’t up for it.”
At the time, King Paluta was rapidly rising in the industry, earning admiration for his distinctive style, lyrical dexterity, and refreshing energy. Daddy Lumba, already a timeless icon, carried decades of musical brilliance that had shaped Ghanaian music and influenced countless artists—including Kwame himself.
Okyeame Kwame envisioned something powerful: the legendary voice of Daddy Lumba blending with the vibrant, youthful flair of King Paluta. He believed the collaboration could symbolize the passing of the musical torch—an exchange of artistry across eras.
However, despite Lumba’s interest, ongoing health challenges made it difficult for the legend to commit to the project.
Daddy Lumba has since passed on last year, leaving behind a legacy that remains unmatched.
