Ranking Member on Parliament’s Sports and Youth Committee and MP for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Berekum Chelsea player, Dominic Frimpong, who was killed in a violent armed robbery attack on a team bus belonging to Berekum Chelsea.
In a social media post, Assafuah described Frimpong’s death as a devastating loss to Ghana football and highlighted growing concerns about insecurity on the country’s highways. He called for stronger protection for football clubs travelling for league matches and urged swift action from security agencies.
The attack occurred along the Goaso–Bibiani road near Ahyiresu, where armed men ambushed the bus, forcing players and officials to flee for safety. Frimpong, sustained gunshot injuries and later died at Bibiani Government Hospital.
The Ghana Police Service has been urged to bring the perpetrators to justice and improve security for teams on matchday travels.
