Over 250 teachers recruited in 2023 and posted to the Northern Region have petitioned the Ministry of Education over unpaid salaries, describing the situation as a “grave professional and financial injustice.”

The teachers, who have worked for more than two years without pay, say delays in staff ID generation by the Ghana Education Service have prevented their placement on the government payroll. They reject claims by the Regional Education Director that their appointments are fake, noting they possess valid appointment letters, posting letters, and assumption-of-duty forms.

The group argues that administrative confusion following post-2024 election revocations has unfairly affected them, despite their appointments predating the elections. They also highlighted that teachers recruited after 2023 in other regions are receiving salaries while they remain unpaid.

The teachers are calling on the Ministry of Education to expedite staff ID generation, process all outstanding salaries dating back to 2023, and correct public narratives questioning their legitimacy, while urging authorities to restore fairness and dignity to the affected educators.
