The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested 132 suspects following a series of special swoops and motor operations carried out across parts of the Accra Metropolis to enhance security during the festive season.
The operations, conducted between Thursday, December 18 and Monday, December 22, covered areas including Alajo, East Legon, Dansoman, Chorkor, Nungua, Bawaleshie and Zongo Lane. The exercise led to the retrieval of 36 motorcycles, suspected stolen items, narcotic substances, laptops, mobile phones and other personal effects.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, December 23, the Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Superintendent of Police Juliana Obeng, said some suspects were found with opioids and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. She disclosed that a swoop at Alajo near the Merciful Hotel Annex resulted in the arrest of four suspects who were allegedly packaging and smoking substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Superintendent Obeng indicated that all suspects are currently undergoing screening, stressing that those found culpable will be arraigned before court, while persons not linked to any criminal activity will be released.
She further called on the public to cooperate with the police to ensure a crime-free Christmas and festive season.
