The Ghana Police Service has arrested Sibamay Zakaria, the man allegedly captured in a viral video slapping a detained pastor at the Police headquarters.
The incident occurred after the pastor was arrested over allegations that he insulted Prophet Mohammad. A video showing the handcuffed pastor being slapped by a civilian while in police custody sparked public concern over the assault and security breach.
The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Police Service says all persons found culpable will face the appropriate disciplinary processes.
Zakaria remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations. He is expected to be put before the court for further legal proceedings.
His arrest does not establish guilt, and the allegations remain subject to the judicial process.
