The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has confirmed that media personality Okatakyie Kwame Afrifa Mensah and another suspect are receiving treatment at the Mampong Government Hospital under police guard following their arrest over disturbances during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ejura Sekyedumase East Constituency executive elections.
According to the police, Kwame Afrifa Mensah and six others were arrested after a group allegedly disrupted voting at the SDA Church polling station in Wiamoase. The group is accused of attacking police officers and scattering electoral materials after security personnel questioned their presence at the venue.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that Kwame Afrifa Mensah claimed some of his supporters had been excluded from the electoral process and that he had obtained a court injunction to stop the elections. However, the police stated that neither they nor the Electoral Commission had received any such court order.
The remaining members of the group reportedly fled the scene and are being pursued by police. Authorities said calm was restored following police intervention, allowing voting to continue and conclude peacefully. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
