President John Dramani Mahama will on Wednesday, November 12, launch the Nkoko Nketenkete Poultry Project in Kumasi as part of Government’s efforts to revitalise the poultry industry and strengthen rural livelihoods.
The initiative, a key campaign commitment of the National Democratic Congress in the 2024 general elections, is designed to boost domestic poultry production through support to household, medium- and large-scale farmers.
Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional Minister, announced the upcoming launch during the Akwasidae celebration at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, where he led members of the Ashanti Regional Security Council to pay homage to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene.
Under the Nkoko Nketenkete Project, beneficiary farmers will be provided with day-old chicks, feed and vaccines, supported by a guaranteed buy-back arrangement.
Mature birds will be purchased by the Government for processing and distribution under a national poultry brand linked to the project.
The choice of Kumasi as the launch venue reflects the Ashanti Region’s strategic role in national agricultural development and its long-standing contribution to Ghana’s poultry industry. The region hosts major producers such as Darko Farms, Boris B Farms, Akate Farms, Nfum Farms and others.
The project is expected to expand opportunities for smallholder farmers, youth and women by providing essential inputs and securing a ready market, thereby stimulating local economies and enhancing livelihoods.
Wednesday’s event will also introduce the Nkoko Nketenkete brand and outline enrolment procedures for households and small-scale poultry producers.
The programme forms part of the Mahama administration’s broader agenda to transform Ghana’s food system, increase self-reliance in poultry production and support communities through sustainable agribusiness.
Stakeholders across the value chain are expected to monitor the rollout closely to ensure the project delivers measurable outcomes and long-term benefits.
