FIFA High-Performance Specialist Faisal Chibsah has backed newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz to instill a sense of discipline and clear identity within the national team.

The 73-year-old Portuguese manager was recently handed a four-month contract to lead Ghana through the expanded 48-team World Cup. Queiroz replaces Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties following a streak of four consecutive friendly defeats just three months away from the tournament.

Speaking to JoyNews, Chibsah highlighted the former Real Madrid coach and Manchester United assistant’s reputation for structure. “He will bring a bit of discipline to the team, which for me was lacking a lot. We would see [discipline] and also [Ghana would] definitely get an identity,” Chibsah stated.

Despite his confidence in the veteran’s resume, Chibsah noted that the transition would require significant adjustment. “The challenge for Carlos now would be how adaptable he can be taking on Ghana,” he remarked, adding that “Iran, Oman, Qatar are not Ghana. Ghana, we expect more.”

Queiroz has characterized his short-term tenure as “not just another job [but] a mission.” He inherits a squad aiming to reach the World Cup knockout stages for the first time since 2010. Ghana is set to compete in Group L against England, Croatia, and Panama.
