Former Orlando Pirates head coach Roger De Sa has finalized an agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to serve as the assistant coach for the Black Stars. De Sa will reunite with head coach Carlos Queiroz to lead the national team through the FIFA World Cup 2026.

According to a report by KickOff, the South African tactician has concluded negotiations on personal terms with the GFA. While specific details of the deal remain undisclosed, the appointment is expected to run concurrently with Queiroz’s four-month contract.

“I will fly out on Thursday to Accra to start working straight away,” the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper told KickOff. “I think when the previous coach left, the Ghana FA looked at Carlos Queiroz, and obviously it happened very quickly. Within four to five days, it was done.”

De Sa and Queiroz share a long-standing professional history, having previously collaborated during Egypt’s run to the AFCON 2021 final and Iran’s campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 61-year-old coach acknowledged the condensed timeline facing the new technical bench as they prepare for the global tournament.

“Those are the challenges, but it comes with a job like this,” De Sa noted. “[I’ve] been watching a lot of films, videos, watching different players with different clubs. The biggest challenge is obviously to select a team without having really enough time. And obviously, the preparations are also very short. You’ve got about two weeks to prepare your team. But ja, that’s how it is, that’s the name of the game.”

He added: “It’s not easy, it’s gonna be difficult, but they’re all difficult anyway.”

It remains unconfirmed whether De Sa will be present alongside Queiroz for the head coach’s official introduction, which is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Alisa Hotel.
