A private security man has been arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly posing as a police officer during the ShattaFest Concert at the Black Star Square. Akoto Nelson, 34, is accused of wearing a police camouflage uniform with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), presenting himself as such to the public, and unlawfully possessing police accoutrements.

According to the facts presented in court, Nelson was arrested around 1:00 a.m. on October 19, 2025, by a team from the Formed Police Unit after he was found in the ASP-ranked uniform at the event. A search of his residence allegedly led to the retrieval of a toy P99 pistol, pepper spray, two ZTE mobile phones and a Xinte cutter knife. He reportedly failed to provide any lawful authority for wearing the uniform or possessing the items. Nelson has been charged with possession of police accoutrements without lawful authority and falsely pretending to be a public officer. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered to remain on his previous bail of GHC50,000 with two sureties. The complainant in the case is a police officer with the Formed Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service.
