Senegal secured the CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations championship on Tuesday, defeating Tanzania 4-2 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium.

Tanzania opened the scoring early when Hamis Chenga netted a goal in the seventh minute. Senegal equalized in the 64th minute when Ibrahima Dione scored from close range after Tanzania goalkeeper Haji Abdullahi was unable to clean up a free-kick delivered by Souleymane Commissaire Faye.

Following a scoreless remainder of regulation time, Senegal clinched the continental title in the ensuing shootout. Souleymane Commissaire Faye, Sadio, Ibrahima Dione, and Thior successfully converted their penalty kicks for Senegal. Tanzania’s Usuph and Mbegelendi scored their attempts, but missed penalties from Kilendemo and Mbegu sealed the victory for the Young Lions of Teranga, marking the country’s second U-17 AFCON title.
