The Ghana Shippers’ Authority is set to meet leaders of the Joint Association of Port Transport Drivers (JAPTU) on Monday, April 13, at 12pm to address rising tensions over a planned industrial action.

The meeting, confirmed by Chief Executive Officer Ransford Gyampo, comes after JAPTU issued notice of a potential sit-down strike from April 14 to April 17. The drivers are protesting what they describe as unfair and burdensome regulatory measures introduced by the Authority, which they say could negatively impact their operations and livelihoods.

Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show, Mr. Gyampo said the Authority remains committed to engaging stakeholders and resolving concerns collaboratively to ensure smooth operations within the port ecosystem. He explained that while the Authority seeks to properly register operators under the law, disagreements had emerged over re-registration processes, which JAPTU considers a duplication.

He added that discussions had already begun with the association’s leadership, who agreed to the meeting as part of efforts to find a lasting resolution and avert the planned strike.
