The President of the Somalia Football Federation (SFF), Ali Abdi Mohamed, has confirmed Somalia’s full backing for Gianni Infantino in his bid for re‑election as President of world football governing body FIFA.
The endorsement places Somalia among a growing list of national football associations publicly supporting Infantino’s continued leadership, as FIFA prepares for its next presidential election.
According to the SFF leadership, the decision to support Infantino is rooted in Somalia’s broader football development agenda and its desire to deepen cooperation with FIFA. The federation highlighted the importance of sustained institutional engagement with the global governing body as the country continues efforts to rebuild and strengthen its football structures.
Mr Mohamed noted that FIFA’s support programmes and development initiatives have played a significant role in assisting emerging football nations, including Somalia, particularly in areas of administration, infrastructure and grassroots development.
Somalia’s backing also underscores the SFF’s commitment to stability and continuity in global football governance, at a time when many national associations are seeking stronger partnerships to advance the game domestically.
Gianni Infantino has served as FIFA President since 2016 and has received endorsements from several member associations across different confederations as he seeks another term in office.
