The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has refuted assertions by the Black Queens regarding unpaid per diems, maintaining that all approved allowances for eligible players and staff have been settled.
According to an official release on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the Ministry stated that players and qualifying personnel were given advance per diem payments on July 29 for the period spanning July 26 to August 7.
The statement noted that an additional disbursement was executed on August 11 to cover August 8 through 14 following the squad’s quarter-final exit and extended stay in Morocco for the FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification pathway.
“Accordingly, as of 12 August 2026, government has no outstanding per diem obligation to the Black Queens,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry explained that the team earned a winning bonus for defeating Cape Verde in the group stage, with those funds currently undergoing standard financial processing.
However, the Ministry dismissed allegations concerning unpaid qualification bonuses, clarifying that the current state sports financing structure does not allocate bonus packages for advancing through home-and-away qualification rounds.
The official release further noted that no winning bonuses were authorized for the preliminary ties against Egypt, a directive it indicated was previously communicated to the Ghana Football Association.
This official response comes after the Black Queens publicly highlighted grievances regarding unpaid financial entitlements, player welfare, and general support during the tournament.
Addressing welfare concerns, the Ministry asserted that the squad is provided with a full support framework consisting of medical, administrative, technical, and nutritional staff, adding that any valid supplemental welfare demands are being handled.
As the team prepares to play Côte d’Ivoire in a decisive FIFA Women’s World Cup play-in fixture, the Ministry called for unity behind the squad’s qualification pursuit, affirming that “Government remains firmly behind the Black Queens.”
