A 19-year-old sachet water worker, Prince Bentum, has been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the Tarkwa District Magistrate Court One after pleading guilty to charges of unlawful entry and theft.

Bentum was convicted for breaking into his co-worker’s room and stealing two mobile phones and cash at a mineral water company located at Railway Quarters in Tarkwa. The complainant, Degraft Hagan, is a student who managed the company during vacation periods.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on September 27, 2025, when the complainant and other workers left the premises to supply water, leaving Bentum behind. He allegedly abandoned his duties, forced open the complainant’s partitioned room and stole an iPhone 7 Plus with its charger, a Tecno phone and cash.

After the theft, Bentum fled the area with the stolen items. The complainant later discovered the break-in and reported the matter to their employer and the police. Bentum was eventually arrested on October 2, 2025, at Twifo Praso after a witness identified him using one of the stolen phones.

Investigations revealed that Bentum had used part of the stolen money to buy clothes, food and repair one of the phones. Police recovered the stolen iPhone, charger, clothing items and cash, including money found in his mobile money account, all of which were tendered as exhibits in court.

The presiding magistrate, Mr Charles Owusu Nsiah, sentenced Bentum to six months in prison.
