An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced 35-year-old Nana Adwoa Yamoah, a self-styled spiritualist based in Teshie, to three years in prison for defrauding a man of GH¢95,100.

Yamoah pleaded guilty to charges of defrauding by false pretences and practising without the required registration and licence. Prosecutors said she convinced the complainant, Douglas Abu, that she had connections to the Asantehene and could secure his enstoolment as chief of Ntotroso.

Under this pretext, she collected multiple payments, including GH¢51,000 which she promised to double. She also persuaded Abu to fund a supposed spiritual trip to Benin, which never took place.

After becoming suspicious and failing to recover his money, Abu reported the case to police, leading to Yamoah’s arrest on March 9, 2026. Investigations revealed she was not registered with the Traditional Medicine Practice Council and had allegedly used similar schemes on others.

Following her guilty plea, the court, presided over by Dennis Eyram Fumey convicted and sentenced her after confirming she was not pregnant.
